OneWeb FAQ
We are here to support you.
Below you will find tips, resources, and much more to help you get the most out of your KVH Starlink system. The biggest resource available to you is the myKVH.com Customer Portal. Within the myKVH portal you can access how-to videos and product information, and create or review a hardware or service support case. You should have received an email with your login credentials from KVH Airtime Services. If you haven’t, please contact us at [email protected].
How does the OneWeb antenna need to be oriented relative to the vessel?
It is best practice to orient the antenna such that its coax connector is facing aft.
What type of cable should I use to connect the Intellian OneWeb antenna to the below-deck unit (CNX)?
KVH recommends RG-11 cable that conforms to Intellian’s specifications. Approved RG-11 cables may be purchased from KVH in lengths up to 200 feet (60 m).
What accessories do I need to pole-mount the Intellian OneWeb antenna?
You need both the mounting plate and the adjustable mount adapter.
Is the Intellian mounting plate necessary?
The mounting plate is designed for secure installation on a vessel and provides the necessary gap under the antenna to permit adequate airflow. (The fans on the bottom of the antenna must not be obstructed.)
Can I mount the CNX-WIFI horizontally on a shelf?
No. The CNX-WIFI must be mounted vertically to ensure proper heat dissipation. A mounting bracket is supplied with the unit.
Where should I mount the OneWeb antenna?
The antenna should be mounted in a location that provides a clear view of the sky all around, especially above 37 degrees elevation above the horizon. It should also be located as far away as possible from other antennas and, most importantly, outside the beam of any radar. In addition, like other satellite antennas, it should be mounted above any areas accessible to passengers and crew to avoid RF radiation exposure.
What system identifier do I need to activate my Intellian OneWeb system?
KVH can accept any one of the following to activate: (1) antenna unit serial number, (2) IMEI number, or (3) KVH serial number.
Can I connect my own router to the Intellian CNX unit?
Yes! However, if your router’s WAN port is not set up for DHCP, you need to set its static IP address between 192.168.100.10 and 192.168.100.126. The gateway of the CNX is 192.168.100.1 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.128.
Can I use KVH’s Enhanced Voice-over-IP service with the OneWeb system?
Yes! KVH VoIP subscribers simply need to connect a KVH MTA (KVH part no. 19-1191) to the same vessel network to enjoy voice service over the OneWeb system. Just be aware that VoIP traffic is not prioritized on the OneWeb network like it is on the KVH VSAT network.
Can I connect the OneWeb system to my existing KVH VSAT system for hybrid connectivity?
Yes! You can connect the OneWeb antenna system to a TracNet H-series, TracNet Coastal Pro, or TracPhone HTS-series system for hybrid functionality. Whenever the OneWeb service is unavailable, you will automatically switch to an available backup to maintain your connectivity. (Or you might consider installing the CommBox Edge, which offers a whole host of advanced network data management tools, including prioritization and bonding of multiple WAN connections. Visit kvh.com/edge for details.)
Which components of the OneWeb antenna unit can be replaced in the field?
The fans on the bottom of the antenna are the only field-replaceable units.
Can I paint the OneWeb antenna to match my boat?
Painting is not recommended, as it will likely compromise the antenna’s superhydrophobic coating and reduce performance.
How do I change the Wi-Fi password on the CNX-WIFI?
Connect a laptop to the CNX-WIFI’s “MGMT” port and log into its management interface at 192.168.100.3 (refer to the manual for the password). You can then edit the SSID (network name) and password for all its available Wi-Fi connections.
Where can I find how much data I have used for the current month?
The KVH Manager app allows you to view your usage, set alerts, and more. Contact KVH Airtime Services for a user login. You can also check usage by logging into eBill.
